Spoof movie dilemma, what would you do?

You are in a room with your second best buddy(wife, sister, boyfriend, whatever), and your friend is in another room about to be crushed by a bed of spikes. One of you can stop it by holding onto a rope above your head, but as soon as you grab it a boot will spring out of the floor striking you in a special place repeatedly. Who grabs the rope (if either) and who looks for a way to rescue the buddy?
